A secret area in Caduceus Manor

You have probably came across several hidden locations in Guild Wars 2, but this one is worth mentioning because there are already implemented some cool features. According to the latest rumor, a creepy rooms could be some kind of riddle maze in the future. It’s located in Caudecus’s Manor instance, and you need a blink ability to get inside.

Important Note: Unfortunately the original video has been removed. I found the second one that leads to the same location.

Guild Wars 2 Sells Two Bajilion Copies

OK, it is not two bajilion (that is not a real number), it is two million copies sold, but still, that is huge. Arena Net should now advertise as the company that made Guild Wars 2, as in, 2 million copies sold within the first month since launch. It is a well deserved success accompanied by great reviews across the board. Guild Wars 2 has a score of 92 on Metacritic and 8.4 score from users (out of 10), which makes it one of the highest rated MMORPGs out there. According to the NC Soft press release more than 400,000 players have been regularly logged in to the game concurrently across all territories. They also topped sales charts in 10 European countries since release. Since the game is subscription free high sales number will ensure long term development of high quality and I am really glad that Arena Net has managed to draw in so many players because we will now be playing GW2 for a very long time. Congratulations Arena Net and NCSoft on a great game. For 5 millions everyone gets a Charr mini pet for free?

P.S. On a related note; GW2 Life has surpassed 1 million visits since the game launched and we will be doing a small celebratory giveaway of our own very soon. Stay tuned!

Guild Wars 2 Trailer Released

NCSoft just released the official trailer for Guild Wars 2. Acclaimed Director James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) was brought on board to lend his revolutionary zeal and craftsman’s eye to the launch trailer. Guild Wars 2’s tagline “Our Time Is Now” is vividly brought to life as seekers in our world take the fight for change in Tyria.

Official Issues Status Update August 29th

Guild Wars 2 Team posted on the official GW2 subreddit a post detailing all the remaining issues that are being worked on. In the meantime there was a patch deployed that might have already improved some of the things mentioned. Here’s the status of the most important issues being tracked:

Account security – We’re seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the “reset password” feature, and we’re working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don’t use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

Email authentication – Email authentication is a feature that notifies you if someone tries to log into your account from a location you’ve never logged in from before. Thus, even if someone guesses your game password, he can’t log in unless he also guesses your email account password. You can make email authentication even more secure by using an email provider that supports two-factor authentication, such as Google or Yahoo, and taking advantage of that. We’re currently preparing email authentication and intend to deploy it in a phased rollout, starting on Thursday, August 30.

Parties, guilds, etc. – Parties, guilds, and other social features are periodically failing. This causes issues such as party members not appearing on the map, and party members not staying in the same overflow servers as they travel between maps. This happens particularly during times of peak usage. We’re working to fix related problems and mitigate this issue with each subsequent update.

Worlds – Many worlds are filling up. We’re keeping the number of worlds constrained so that worlds stay well populated even after the initial surge of high concurrency. However, we will add worlds as necessary. As of Wednesday, August 30, all German language worlds are full and all French language worlds are at high usage, so we’re adding two new German language worlds and one new French language world.

Overflow worlds – During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while many characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it’s common for players to be directed to overflow maps. If you want to play with a friend, but you’re not on the same overflow map, you can form a party together, then right-click on your friend’s portrait in the party list and click “join”. Note that this functionality is sometimes intermittently unavailable due to the “parties, guilds, etc.” issues noted above.

Trading Post – We’re working to bring the Trading Post back online. To help test, we’ve temporarily made it available to a random 15% of players, while we work to resolve remaining capacity constraints that will allow us to open it to everyone.
Edit: We have completed our live testing of the Trading Post for today and the Trading Post is now in maintenance for all players. Thank you everyone that participated; this test has helped us tremendously.

In-game mail – We detected a potential abuse of the in-game mail system and have temporarily disabled in-game mail to prevent any such abuse. We’ll reenable it soon, hopefully in tonight’s update.
Edit: The fact that in-game mail is disabled means that it’s currently impossible for account hackers to loot stolen accounts, so we’re going to leave it disabled for just a little while longer, while we work to ramp up email authentication.

Botting – We’ll start substantial banning of bots on Wednesday, August 29. Since we’re currently seeing widespread casual, unsophisticated botting, we will start with 72-hour bans for first offenses. In the coming days, as we address the casual botting problem, we plan to switch to our normal policy of permanently banning anyone who runs a bot.

Forums – Our most important priority at the moment is to ensure that the game runs stably and flawlessly. So as to not create additional demand on our infrastructure and on our programming team, we made the decision not to open the forums until the initial mass influx of players has calmed down a bit.

Next software updates – The next update of the game server and back-end server software will take place tonight at midnight Seattle time. The game may be unavailable for approximately 20-60 minutes while we perform the update. We expect this update to have fixes for email authentication and in-game mail. Our continued work on the Trading Post is not tied to game updates, so we will continue to test Trading Post updates throughout the day.

Known issues and some solutions

It was not the smoothest launch for Guild Wars 2, but Arena Net staff reacted swiftly and most players are able to play the game now. No matter how many stress tests you conduct when millions of players attempt to play the game at the same time things will not go smoothly. After the initial rush things are much better, but there are still some lingering issues and problems. Arena nest posted on their official Facebook page a list of known issues and some solutions and we wanted to share that with our visitors. Also, we will be adding more official information as it becomes available.

Error Code 1032: The bug where World transfers results in a long delay, has been resolved. Players who log in will be located in the World that they attempted to transfer from. Players should try again.

Error Code 9: This code results when you are not authorized to play in the Guild Wars 2 3-Day Headstart. Retail codes do not get in–you must access to Headstart, which you obtained by PRE-PURCHASING the game in full. Please contact your retailer to make sure that they’ve given you a 3-Day Headstart code. For additional assistance, please contact Customer Support: support.guildwars2.com using the Ask a Question tab. UPDATE: Tweeted by official @guildWars2 account:

If you are currently getting error 9 and you believe you have a pre-order code, please contact your retailer as well as our support.

Error Code 1038: This error results when you try to log in with an account that does not have a Guild Wars 2 serial code attached to it. Please apply a Guild Wars 2 serial code to this account. For additional assistance, please contact Customer Support: support.guildwars2.com

Known issues

  • If you’re having trouble verifying your email address, you can play without verifying your email address by clicking “Play” on the Guild Wars 2 Launcher if you already downloaded the client. We’re working to fix email verification, and you can verify your address once we do.
  • Guild invites cannot be sent at this time. Additionally, some players who were in guilds have been kicked and cannot be reinvited. We’re investigating.
  • Error 9 means that your account does not have Headstart access. If you pre-ordered, as opposed to pre-purchasing, your Headstart access will start at 0:00 PDT, on August 27th.
  • When sending in game mail be sure to send it to the ‘Character Name‘ of the player who is the recipient of the goods, not the recipient’s account/display name.

List of ongoing issues ArenaNet is tracking

  • Guild Issues: This includes guild membership rosters not showing correctly, guild leaders not seeing themselves in the guild, issues with receiving guild invitation notifications, etc.
  • In-game mail
  • Party issues on overflow
  • Trading Post

Guild Wars 2 Maps are Live

Guild Wars 2 provides you with loads of opportunities to explore the land of Tyria. More often than not you will come across a waypoint, skill point or other type of discover-able achievement/content while roaming the lands of Tyria. If you are a collectionist like us you might find our Guild Wars 2 maps handy. Not only are these maps filled with data hand picked by our editors (so, no spam points from random strangers), but we also provide screenshots to better demonstrate where each POI, vista or Waypoint is and how to get to it if you get stuck. So, if you are looking for that underwater cave to get that last skill point, we’re the place that will help you find it. There are many well crafted GW2 interactive maps on the net, but screenshots and careful Editorial approach to each event and point on the map can be found only on GW2 Life. So far we have managed to enter the following lands (we still have hundreds of POIs to upload):

GW2 Life In-game Item Giveaway

You might have noticed that we are in Germany, covering MMORPG news from the biggest European gaming convention. As announced before ArenaNet is not doing anything “spectacular” in terms of presentation because the game is about to launch and everyone is hard at work to make that happen. Luckily, we came across several very friendly community managers and some old Aion friends and managed to get something really exciting for you guys. As you might be aware, Arena Net is giving away in-game codes that will unlock a special item (It’s a white T-shirt with red dragon on it.) for your character once the game launches. You can obtain these if you visit Guild Wars 2 booth at Gamescom.

For those of you that are not at the show in Cologne, we managed to obtain some codes and get the item anyways. We did not get many, only four, but it’s better than nothing. The only thing you need to do is use the widget bellow and enter the giveaway by following us on twitter (you get 3 entry points for this) or leaving a comment here on the site (you get one entry point for this). The winners will be chosen at random on August 21st and notified by email so make sure you leave proper contact information when you sign into the widget. Duplicate entries will not be accepted and will be removed. Thank you all for participating and good luck.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to an unprecedented demand we are forced to end the giveaway prematurely. We initially wanted to run it for 4 days, but we had 4000 people apply within the first 8 hours. Letting this continue with only 4 keys to be given away would just be pointless, so we have decided to cut short the giveaway. We thank you all for participating and we will be contacting the lucky winners with their codes within the next 24 hours. We talked to NCSoft and we were told that a larger batch of keys will be available for us to giveaway so all of you have at least a decent chance of getting one. If we continued this giveaway, the ratio would be one key to 1000 applicants and probably 1 to 10000 within a few days. You might as well play the lottery with those odds …
