In the upcoming patch on February 26th, we can expect big changes to PvP tournaments. Tyler Bearce, ArenaNet’s Game Designer, posted on the official GW2 site a blog article which explains replacement of Paid Tournaments with Free Tournaments.
One of the reasons we initially introduced Paid Tournaments was to create a place for hyper-competitive, highly skilled players to find matches with other players of comparable skill, leaving the Free Tournament system available for more casual competitive play. However, now that we have a ratings and matchmaking system in-place that matches players of similar skill levels, we’ve decided that the ticket cost barrier-to-entry of Paid Tournaments is no longer necessary.
Instead, we’ll have 1-round Free Tournaments and 3-round Free Tournaments. Both of these tournament types will use a separate rating for the purposes of matchmaking.
If you have any unused Tournament Tickets you may exchange these for Gold, Silver or Copper Tournament Reward Chests at the new Ticket Merchant NPC who is located next to the Tournament Master in the Heart of the Mists.
We’re also updating the rewards for the 1-round Free Tournaments. A new Match Win Chest will be awarded to the winning team. The losing team will no longer get a chest.
Also, now that we are removing the entry fee for Paid Tournaments, we are removing Qualifying Points (QP) as a tournament reward as well. In the future, top QP earners will receive a valuable in-game prize, which will be detailed in a later blog post.
Leah Rivera, ArenaNet Content Designer, posted an informative article about upcoming feature Guild Missions. Guild missions are a new, unlockable, gameplay type that your guild can earn through the guild tech tree. These missions are all aimed at group, coordinated play, so kicking off a mission without anyone around to help you isn’t advisable. On the other hand, it does not mean that small guilds can participate in these missions. All the missions take place in the persistent world, which gives you the ability to rally with your neighbors.
Guild Missions rewards
Besides personal rewards, you will earn Guild Merits by completing missions. These Merits display your accomplishments in the guild panel and can be used to unlock new guild upgrades. This expanded unlock system will include new rewards like combo banners, gold find bonus, reduced waypoint costs and, of course, the missions themselves.
February’s release will include the following mission types:
Guild Bounty – Your guild is tasked with tracking down and capturing various targets for the Orders. These people are wanted for a variety of reasons and have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves to resist arrest!
Guild Trek – Think you know Tyria? Well the Tyrian Explorer’s Society has a challenge for you! Find the list of locations before time runs out.
Guild Challenge – These challenges leverage our existing event system but are specifically geared to require multi-group, coordinated play to succeed. So gather your guild and see if you’re up to the challenge!
Guild Rush – Test your skills with a mad dash over harrowing terrain, traps, and other hidden dangers. Just remember, there’s safety in numbers!
Guild Puzzle – It’s a puzzle and a jumping challenge all in one! This mission type requires multi-group coordination as well as individual jumping skills to get to the treasure at the end.
Many questions pop up after the latest Guild Wars 2 game update Flame and Frost: Prelude. Although the players expected a huge update, only several small events connected with the Refugee Volunteer Achievement appeared. On the official GW2 forum, Bobby Stein, ArenaNet’s GW2 Lead Writer, explained the Flame and Frost content progress:
The Flame and Frost story content progresses over time. You will not see everything today, tomorrow, or even the next day.
Expect subtle changes at first. Maybe you’ll encounter some familiar characters. Perhaps you’ll be introduced to some new ones. You might see a new structure where there wasn’t one before.
The Living Story content is initially about the thrill of discovery. We’ll put some markers on your map, maybe send you a letter, or parcel out details through certain characters, but the rest is up to you.
As the weeks progress, you’ll notice bigger changes in the world. New events may appear. Plots will advance and characters will develop.
ArenaNet released the additional GW2 patch notes with several specific changes addressing events, personal story, professional skills and more in the latest game update Flame and Frost: Prelude. Continue reading →
GW2 Refugee Volunteer Achievement is introduced with the latest Flame and Frost: Prelude game update. Refugees traveling south from Wayfarer Foothills to Hoelbrak, and from Diessa Plateau to the Black Citadel are in need of assistance. Collect mementos, light campfires and aid refugee migration.
After completing this achievement, you have to re-log if you don’t get an e-mail. After receiving the e-mail you’ll gain Refugee Child’s Drawing. Double click it and you will gain 5000 karma.
Note: If you want to finish the achievement as soon as possible, re-log often to different overflows, use alt or guest on another server.
Later on that day, there will be events in Diessa Plateau. You’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about the events in Diessa Plateau. If you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive that message.
In Diessa Plateau, you will see refugees just north of the Black Citadel, and along the path north towards Wayfarer Foothills. You will see signs along some of the paths in the area.
According to Regina Buenaobra, ArenaNet’s North American Community Team Lead, the playable GW2 Living Story content starts on January 29th at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.
